THERE were no new cases of FMD reported overnight in the UK for the third day running - the last case was confirmed in Northumberland on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and English Nature have given the go ahead for a £1.27 million project bid, which if successful, will encourage a return to sustainable mixed livestock farming in areas of the National Park most devastated the disease.
The partnership, also including the National Trust, the National Beef Association and farming interests, has developed the bid to the European Union LIFE fund.
If the bid is successful, EU cash will become available to help farmers in bio-diversification schemes and encourage the reintroduction of hardy beef breeds like Aberdeen Angus and Galloways.
