New Settle FMD scare

ALTHOUGH there was only one confirmed new case of foot and mouth in the UK overnight - in Northumberland - fears arose once again in Craven when a suspected case was reported on a farm near Horton-in-Ribblesdale, near Settle.

The Settle area, which saw huge culling operations at the height of the crisis, has been clear for several weeks so once again, Dales farmers are keeping their fingers crossed that this new possible case could prove a false alarm - one of several throughout the UK in the past two weeks as DEFRA vets take super-cautious preventative action.
