No new outbreaks; footpath decision imminent

THERE have been no cases of foot and mouth in Yorkshire over the past 2 days. However, earlier this morning there was a confirmed case over the border in Lancashire and worryingly was not in the Clitheroe area where most of the recent outbreaks have been, but at a farm in Wigan.

Meanwhile, there is good news for walkers and climbers as most of the popular areas of the Lake District will be fully reopened, giving unlimited access, from 1 August. This will mean about 65% of the Lake District will be open, compared to only 3% of footpaths open in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. However, a decision is due on Friday (July 20th) about the proposed reopening of footpaths in the area.
