New case near Clitheroe; protest meeting tonight

ALTHOUGH the Settle area of Craven escaped further infection in the past 24 hours, there was one new outbreak near Clitheroe - one of four throughout the UK.

Meanwhile, an irate Pendle councillor from Barnoldswick - now at the centre of the Lancashire cluster - has called a public protest meeting for tonight go demand a change in Government mass-cull policy.

Counc. David Whipp believes that protective vaccination schemes should be introduced in affected areas - particular those which rely heavily on tourism to support the local economy.

The meeting is due to be held at Rainhill Road School, Barnoldswick, at 7pm.

Elsewhere in North Yorkshire, police have questioned a farmer near Northallerton after a group of Government officials were allegedly held at gunpoint. No shots were actually fired.
