ALTHOUGH there was only one new case if foot and mouth confirmed overnight - in Northumberland - fears are growing amongst both farmers and scientists that autumn weather could bring about a major resurgence of the disease.
Calls are growing from leading scientists that a system of "ring vaccination" should be introduced around hot spots before wet and cold conditions - known the help the spread of the virus - set in.
And the Yorkshire Country Landowners and Business Association has written to the Government warning that "time is running out" for many small rural businesses. The association is calling for a major Government drive to restore confidence in British food.
