No new cases; hopes rise in Lune valley

THERE have been no new cases of FMD confirmed in the UK since Saturday, when there was a single outbreak in Northumberland. Meanwhile, hopes were rising in the Lune Valley following a case confirmed last Wednesday.

That case is believed to have involved a single sheep but a mass cull of farms around Barbon, near Kirkby Lonsdale, was carried out. Since then, no new cases have been confirmed in the area.
