YORKSHIRE farmers received two more blows to sinking morale with the cancellation of the Great Yorkshire Show and the announcement of three more cases of foot and mouth in the Settle-Guisburn area.
There had been no new cases in the previous two days and, with a massive MAFF and Army presence in the area, hopes had been growing that the disease might be on the wane. The total in the area is now 35.
The cancellation of the Great Yorkshire Show, due to take place at Harrogate on July 10-12 was greeted with dismay - the first time its has been cancelled in some 50 years.
The show is one of the biggest agricultural events in Britain and the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were due to attend.
