angel icon THE CHURCH TODAY

St Alkelda's today The church is steeped in the history of its past, but is no museum. Through its present worship and life, it maintains a steadfast witness and a vigorous Christian presence together with other churches in the local community and beyond. It is one of very few Dales churches that maintains a choir and it is a church in which lay people contribute significantly to Sunday worship as well as in other areas of the church's life.

There is a lively and popular monthly Parish magazine which has a large circulation. The Mothers' Union, a combined venture with members of Settle Parish Church, meets monthly. The Prayer and Bible Study is weekly. Sunday at Seven is a monthly social activity designed to help people get to know each other, while the regular Parish walk is enjoyed by those who participate. There is a large group of small children who meet weekly as the Sunday Club alongside a group of older children, the Explorers. These join the rest of the congregation normally once a month in church for Family Communion, when a large part of the service is dedicated to them or sometimes, contributed by them.

Any visitors or newcomers to our services will discover a warm, friendly welcome in our midst. The fact that this beautiful sacred building has borne witness to the Christian Faith throughout so many centuries and is the focal point of the still remembered ancient parish of Giggleswick, covering so much of this part of Ribblesdale, exerts a strange and powerful pull upon locals and "off-comers" alike.
