The hauntingly beautiful ruins of the 12th century Augustinian Priory stand above a wide curve of the River Wharfe.
At the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1539, the nave was left intact as a parish church of exceptional majesty and unforgettable atmosphere. The
unfinished West Tower, now roofed in, forms a magnificent entrance; among many lovely features, the six windows by A W N Pugin are outstanding.
