THE Yorkshire Dales are famous around the world for the quality of the food and drink produced here; and the best that our region has to offer will be on display as one of the region's most renowned Festivals' continues.
The annual Dales Festival of Food and Drink got underway in Leyburn yesterday and is expected to see thousands of visitors flock to the market town over the bank holiday weekend.
Organisers are hoping to exceed last years massive turnout of 21, 000 visitors who took in the sights, sounds and culinary smells of the myriad demonstrations and attractions on offer at the Festival.
Cookery demonstrations will be taking place each day, along with exhibits by local producers.
A new addition to this years festival will see real ales showcased for the first time as organisers provide a platform for the Yorkshire Dales Real Ale Festival. Run by Daleside Brewery and the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), the stand will feature ales from across the north of England.
As well as showcasing the region's food and drink, the Festival provides the ideal setting to feature the contribution that farmers' make to the landscape and heritage of the Dales.
This years display is organised by the Yorkshire Federation of Young Farmers Clubs and is centred on the theme of 'meat and veg - from field to plate'. The intention is to demonstrate how agriculture operates within the countryside and where the food on our plates originates.
Single entry fees to the Festival are £4 and this will provide access to all marquees, cookery demonstrations and the beer festival.
Alternatively, a £6 ticket will cover all three days and under 16s will only pay £2 per day or £3 for three days. Under 12s will be allowed entry to the festival for free.
