Celebrities launch Give it some Welly for Woodland!

[Monday 29 November 2010]

Clive Anderson, Dame Judi Dench and Simon King are just some of the famous names helping the Woodland Trust launch a new fundraising project - and they need your help!

The Woodland Trust is asking people to "Give it some Welly for Woodland"– to raise funds for its More Trees More Good campaign which aims to double the number of native trees and woods in the UK. People of all ages can come together and have fun, with the proceeds going towards creating valuable habitats for wildlife and protecting our precious ancient woodland.

On 4 March 2011, the Trust is inviting people all over the UK to don their wellies or hold a welly event and more importantly have some fun alongside their family, friends and colleagues.

Why not go to your salsa class in wellies, be sponsored to wear wellies filled with custard, hold a welly fashion show or even a welly dinner party - wellies compulsory!

Clive Anderson, President of the Woodland Trust explains: “As President of the Woodland Trust, I've seen for myself the good that comes from planting trees. Our More Trees More Good campaign aims to double native woodland cover by planting 20 million trees across the country every year, and we can only do that with your help.”

Dame Judi Dench added: "I am fortunate to live somewhere that is rich in trees, but so many places are not and the need for more native trees has never been greater, both for people and wildlife. This fund-raising campaign needs us all to put our best foot forward, and I urge everyone to get their thinking caps on and work together to give it some real Welly."

The Woodland Trust is looking for people to hold events across the UK. To find out how you can take part and Give it some Welly for Woodland visit www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/welly
