Recycling bins to cut litter
PEOPLE in Colne will find it much easier to recycle as Pendle Council puts four new recycling and litter bins in place throughout the town in an attempt to reduce litter and the amount of rubbish going to landfill.
The bins have three compartments, one for litter and cans, one for paper and one for plastic bottles.
Colne Area Committee has put up the funding for the new bins; their Chair Coun. Sharon Davies said: "We want to encourage people to recycle as much as possible, wherever they are - not just at home.
"If someone has an empty plastic bottle or a can, they don't have to wait until they get home to recycle it," she added.
The bins will be emptied regularly by the Council's street cleansing staff.
Carole Taylor, Waste Management Co-ordinator, commented: "As well as increasing the amount of recycling, we hope the new bins will reduce the amount of litter and help to keep our streets clean and tidy."
