COME the "glorious" twelfth of August and shooting will once again be providing a valuable source of income to moorland managers across the Yorkshire Dales - and later in the year they are being invited to a major seminar to meet colleagues from across the country.

The seminar - which takes place in September - is a joint initiative with speakers from the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC), the Country Land and Business Association (CLA), National Gamekeepers Organisation (NGO) and the Game Conservancy Trust (GCT).
Organisers hope the event will provide shoot managers with a definitive guide to good practice.
There will be presentations on a wide range of topics including law, assessing the suitability of land for shooting, sporting leases, welfare of game, habitat management, maximizing the shoot day experience, respect for quarry, risk assessment, health and safety and contracts of employment.
BASC's Director of Shooting Standards, Richard Thorne, commented: "This is the essential event for anyone involved in the management of game shooting - shoot managers, agents, landowners, shoot captains and gamekeepers.
"It is an excellent opportunity to share ideas about good practice."
The seminar takes places on Thursday 14th September at the York Club at Windsor Great Park, Surrey. It will run from 9.30am to 4.30pm and there are 125 places available.
To apply for tickets contact Mary Busby at the CLA on 01264 722000 or email info.southeast@cla.org.uk. Tickets are limited and cost £60.
