Raphael Wallfisch
North craven is eagerly awaiting the return of the Northern Chamber Orchestra to the Victoria Hall on Thursday 8th October with internationally renowned cellist, Raphael Wallfisch. Last year Raphael performed the Schumann Cello Concerto, while this year he plays two delightful rarities, a work by the 18th century Czech cellist, Joseph Reicha and Variations on a theme from Mozart’s Don Giovanni by Franz Danzi, a tune that is guaranteed to send you home singing!
Raphael has been described as “that prince of cellist”, and those lucky enough to hear him in Settle last year would agree with this assessment. Orchestras love playing with him, and both pieces being played by Raphael in Settle are being recorded with the NCO later in the month for Nimbus.
Elgar’s Serenade for Strings is always a pleasure and, if you don’t know the Janacek Suite for Strings, you can’t fail to come away wanting to hear it again- and Mendelssohn’s bicentenary is being celebrated with his Symphony No. 10- a great way to round off a wonderful evening.
Tickets are £12, £8 for students and children and are available from the Victoria Hall Box Office: 01729 825718 or book online: www.settlevictoriatheatre.co.uk Tickets are also available on the door.
