Yorkshire Regiment at Great Yorkshire Show
The region's largest annual agricultural event, the show takes place this year from Tuesday 11th - Thursday 13th July at the Showground in Harrogate. Last year's show attracted a record-breaking crowd of 134,810 visitors.
With a display in the main ring on Tuesday and Wednesday, The Yorkshire Regiment will demonstrate the skills of the modern British infantry before a 'home' crowd.
Thirty soldiers from the 1st Battalion will put on a 20-minute firefight between 'friendly' and 'enemy' forces, when the audience can see the type of weapons carried by the infantry and their capabilities.
The soldiers will be in current combat dress with protective equipment and the latest communications devices, and support vehicles - such as the Warrior armoured fighting vehicle and air-portable Land Rover - will be part of the display.
Lt Col Mark Lodge said: "This will be the first time that soldiers from the new regiment will display in public and we're delighted to be part of the Great Yorkshire Show.
"The ethos of the new regiment will reflect a sense of belonging to Yorkshire and the common Yorkshire values of honesty, fairness, grit and pride.
"It will be a new model regiment from this historic county and represent all that is best in the Army - and we are looking forward to demonstrating this at the Show."
Other attractions at the annual event include the JCB Dancing Diggers - described as being like ballet for heavy plant machinery - and mouth-watering arrays of the region's finest food, fashion shows, demonstrations of country skills and to top it all visitors will have the chance to see British agriculture at its best.
