Heritage Sites across the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) will be opening their doors to visitors between the 9th and 12th September.
Nidderdale AONB, one of the country’s finest landscapes, has a wealth of heritage features, many of which are not normally open to the general public. To showcase some of these wonderful sites a series of special events has been arranged by the AONB, to coincide with Heritage Open Days, providing a fantastic opportunity to explore more of the areas heritage.
The programme includes: Thursday 9 September - a walk through the History of Gouthwaite Lodge Farm, looking at a selection of interesting historic farm buildings, and historic features; Friday 10 September - a guided walk to explore Swinton Park - the landscape park, pleasure grounds and gardens to Swinton Castle; Saturday 11 September – a visit to the Witch of the Woods, a wonderful 400 year old cottage set in a beautiful wooded landscape between Fountains Abbey and Hackfall: Sunday 12 September – The Nidderdale Museum in Pateley Bridge opens its doors for free.
These events have been organised as part of a project, supported with funding from the Yorkshire Dales LEADER programme, which encourages involvement in and the exploration of Nidderdale AONB’s heritage.
All events are completely free but places are limited and so pre booking is required for some events. For full details or to book a place please visit the AONB website at www.nidderdaleaonb.org.uk or ring the AONB office on 01423 712950.
