Drivers asked to take care as repairs begin on Malhamdale bridge

[Thursday 27 July 2006]

MOTORISTS travelling along a popular Yorkshire Dales road are being asked to drive extra carefully as repair work is carried out on a bridge.

Following recent severe damage by an agricultural vehicle, Highways bosses at North Yorkshire County Council have temporarily closed Newfield Bridge in Malhamdale to all traffic.

The bridge is located on the Gargrave to Airton road, an important access route into the Dales for residents and tourists alike as they head for the popular Malham Cove beauty spot.

North Yorkshire County Council is carrying out urgent temporary repairs to the bridge, with a view to bringing it back into use in time for the Malham Show on August 26th.

In the meantime, diversionary routes will be signposted. As the diversion routes consist of narrow and tortuous country lanes, drivers are asked to take extreme care.
