LECTURERS, academics and researchers will be meeting in the Yorkshire Dales National Park at the weekend for a special seminar looking at environmental changes in prehistory.
The event, which is open to invited guests, will include speakers from Bradford, York, Lancaster, Durham, Manchester and Ulster universities, from the Freshwater Biological Research Association and from the British Museum.
The seminar on Saturday is being hosted by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority (YDNPA) at its Yoredale offices in Bainbridge and will look at current research into how the environment changed in the prehistoric period.
Robert White, the YDNPA’s Senior Conservation Archaeologist, said: “If we can see how things have changed, it gives us an idea of what we could expect in the future and how the environment might adapt to different climatic conditions.
“The aim of the seminar is to encourage more research into the Dales landscape and to develop better links between the Authority and the universities.
“Some of them are already carrying out work in the National Park and others are doing things that have a direct relevance to it.
“The day will take the form of lectures and workshops and will provide a chance for people to exchange ideas and experiences.”
A summary of the day’s findings will be published by the North Craven Historical Research Group, which is jointly organising the event.
