SCARECROWS of all shapes and sizes will be taking over the parish church of Thirsk as part of a week long celebration of Herriot country.
Scarecrows support Herriot country
The finishing touches to the exhibition at St Mary's Church are underway - one of a host of events being organised as part of 'Herriot Happenings'.
Now in its fifth year, Herriot Happenings is organised by members of the Herriot Country Attractions Group to celebrate the area and what it has to offer to visitors and residents.
The event involves many of the 22 members in everything from exhibitions and craft fairs to fun days and dog shows.
It kicks off on Saturday (May 27th) with an afternoon of jazz and ends on June 5th with a special race night at Thirsk Racecourse and the annual snail derby. The famous derby will see the shelled creatures tackle a circular course as their owner's battle for the top prize - and the coveted trophy.
Along the way there is an afternoon of jazz; a family fun day; a craft and gift fair; a treasure trail; children's activity days; a dog show; a specialist plant fair; and a 'have-a-go' archery weekend.
