Narrowboats of all shapes and sizes from far and wide are expected to provide a colourful backdrop to a packed programme of entertainment and stalls around the basin.
The event is expected to attract around 8, 000 visitors over the three day weekend; and there will be plenty for them to see and do with a wide variety of community, charity and craft stalls every day on Coach Street car park, including rope tying, birds of prey demonstrations, vintage engines and Indian hand decoration, as well as a full range of refreshments.
A full programme of daily entertainment from 12 noon till 4.30 pm includes Punch and Judy Shows, antics by Saucy Seaside Sid, clowns, Morris dancing, traditional brass bands, and a local drumming group from Ings School.
British Waterways will also be organising their Wild Over Waterways activities designed to teach children about the history and traditions of the waterway as well as about the need to stay safe near water.
A highlight of the weekend is the illuminated cruise which will see a procession of 30 lit boats along the Leeds and Liverpool canal on Sunday evening.
Laurence Morgan , General Manager for British Waterways in Yorkshire, said: "This event is one of the major annual events along Yorkshire 's waterways and months of planning go into ensuring its success.
"We hope that everyone has a great time over the weekend."
