Xmas Tree recycling across Hambleton
reaches record numbers
Hambleton's festive recycling centres have recorded yet another busy Christmas.
For the third year in a row the number of Christmas trees left at 52 specially set up compounds across the district has increased.
Residents delivered almost 1550 - 80 more than in 2005 - trees to collection points in towns and villages including Thirsk, Bedale and Northallerton.
Over the last week these sites have been visited by a mobile shredding unit which reduces the firs to chippings ready for composting - saving the need to send them to landfill sites.
The recycling team found themselves working in car parks, fields, at village halls, pubs, recycling centres and a garden centre.
