Ewa at work in reeth craft shop
THE landscape and light of the Dales is providing inspiration for the latest tenant of a craft workshop in the Richmondshire of the Yorkshire Dales.
Working from the district council run Silver Street workshops in Reeth, Ewa Gorska, owner of Pendangles creates fused glass items from the premises, and visitors to the gallery can watch her working while they browse.
Originally from Warsaw in Poland, Ewa moved to the North East seven years ago for an assignment with a multi-national company. However, a re-evaluation of what she wanted out of life led her to the Dales.
"Before taking on this workspace I had been supplying art galleries in the North East area, but being able to have my own gallery and work area means I now have vital personal contact with customers", she says.
"Glass gives so many creative opportunities, it can look delicate, sparkling and translucent yet is often sturdy, resilient and versatile and it's going to be great to showcase that here.
"New bigger workspace allows me to venture into further exciting techniques of kiln formed glass. From glass and silver jewellery to platters and bowls to wall panels and bigger architectural pieces they all have amazing colours and unusual design. Silver Street is also a community of craftspeople, and we support each other."
Other tenants include a clockmaker, cabinet maker, furniture maker, artist, model maker and sculptor.
"We are very pleased to welcome Ewa to Reeth", says local ward member, Councillor Martin Bearpark. "By encouraging these kinds of businesses to locate in this area, we aim to make Silver Street a hub for quality crafts in the area."
