Richmondshire rams home road safety message
COMMUNITY Safety Officers across Richmondshire are working to reduce casualties on the roads later this week through a campaign of speed traps and videos.
This coming Friday (26 October) is the latest in a series of 'No Casualty' Days which sees North Yorkshire Police officers cracking down on speeders and other dangerous drivers.
To coincide with the police campaign, Richmondshire Community Safety Partnership plan to have high visibility speed enforcement on roads throughout the District.
Speeding drivers will be shown educational videos designed to show the risk and dangers speed causes to themselves and other road users.
"Next weekend, when the clocks go forward, drivers will be faced with travelling to and from work in the dark," explained Traffic Sergeant John Lumbard, from North Yorkshire Police.
"The message from the Police and Fire Service is very simple. We want drivers to work with us to make the roads safer for everyone. Those who persist in speeding and endanger others should expect to be caught and prosecuted."
Autumn weather often leaves the roads damp and fog can be a problem. Motorists are being encouraged to check their vehicles before every journey, ensure lights are working and give themselves plenty of time to complete their journeys.
