PLANS to research and publish the history of a Yorkshire Dales village have received a boost with the announcement of extra funding for the project.
Clapham Development Association is carrying out the project to increase knowledge and awareness of local history in the village, parish and community of Clapham.
The extra funding, in the form of a grant of £2, 000, comes from Awards For All. The organisation distributes money - between £300 and £10,000 - raised through the National Lottery and is aimed at encouraging people to take part in arts, sport, heritage and community activities, as well as projects that promote education, the environment and health in the local community.
In Clapham, volunteers will document their findings and develop related skills and creativity. The project is intended to be a focus for residents working together, helping them gain an appreciation of local history and promote conservation in the local environment.
It is hoped that the published history will also be of interest to Clapham's many visitors and the local education centre.
