Nature lovers are being invited to set their alarm clock for an early start to enjoy Mother Nature’s symphony.
The Forestry Commission is staging a dawn chorus walk in 8,600 acre Dalby Forest, near Pickering, on Saturday 1 May, setting out at 5am.
And once early risers have feasted on the sights and sounds of the woodland, they can enjoy a hearty English breakfast at Dalby Forest Visitor Centre with rangers! Ranger Mark Barker said:
“Every dawn chorus is unique and although birds can sing through the night, the crescendo is reached a few hours after dawn with chiffchaffs and woodpeckers adding their distinctive contributions. You have to make an early start to enjoy the action but the rewards are unforgettable and the perfect antidote to the stresses of modern life.”
Birds are at their most vocal this time of the year because they are marking territories and attracting mates. There’ll be plenty of other activity to look out for as sun worshippers stir for action and nocturnal animals like badgers and foxes make their way home.
Booking is essential on 01751 472771 or at Dalby Forest Visitor Centre and the cost is £12 including breakfast.
