Contemporary Craven Christmas exhibition showcases 50 Craven artists

[Friday 22 October 2010]

The annual Contemporary Craven Christmas exhibition at Craven Museum & Gallery opens on 21 October with more artists represented than ever before.

The exhibition at Craven District Council’s Craven Museum & Gallery supports local professional artists and makers, who go through a selection process before being able to be included in this popular exhibition.

This year there is 3D and photographic work by newcomers Rob Duckworth and Alice Thompson - both now undergraduates at art school – as well as work from well established and internationally known artists David Cook from Kirby Malham, Kitty North from Broughton, Jacquie Denby from Grassington and ceramicist Anna Lambert from Cross Hills. New to the exhibition is Annabelle Bradley the blacksmith from Malham and Jackie Hunt the glassmaker from Long Preston.

Councillor Ken Hart said “This exhibition just gets better and better. The prices range from literally £2 to £5,500 and there’s such a mixture of work on offer – jewellery, prints, paintings, metal work, sculptures, photographs, textiles, books, cards – all great for Christmas presents. It’s amazing to me that so many people with such talent live in a tiny rural area like Craven and all credit to the Museum & Arts service of the council for highlighting their work in this showcase exhibition”.

Contemporary Craven Christmas at Craven Museum & Gallery, Town Hall, Skipton is open until 22 December. Opening hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 12 – 4 closed Tuesday; Saturday 10 – 4, closed Sunday. School and art group visits can be arranged.
