Accolade for Yorkshire Dales pub

[Tuesday 22 February 2011]

The Wensleydale Heifer, one of the Yorkshire Dales’ oldest inns and boutique hotels, has received yet another accolade after it was listed as one of the top 50 pubs in the country by The Times.

The hotel was also one of only twelve UK establishments featured in The Times 100 best hotels in the world.

The Wensleydale Heifer has received many awards including two AA rosettes, AA Seafish Pub of the Year for England, Yorkshire Post Magazine Seafood Pub of the Year and No 1 in the 10 Top Fish Restaurants in the Times Magazine.

Owner and chef David Moss Moss trained at Longueville Manor, which at the time was the Channel Islands' only Michelin-starred restaurant, and has since worked at a number of leading establishments, including The Crab at Chieveley, the AA Seafood Restaurant of the Year 2005-06.

Mr Moss prides himself on his strong links to the top independent fish suppliers and The Wensleydale Heifer has a team of five chefs.

As well as producing what has been described as some of the best seafood in the country, the Heifer maintains its support for the local economy with the emphasis on homegrown produce, using reared meats from the Dales' best butchers, fresh vegetables from Bedale, chocolate from Leyburn, cheeses from Wensleydale, and free range eggs from West Witton.

The ‘restaurant with rooms’ has also launched exclusive Diners’ Club for its seafood restaurant and fish bar. Members will be entitled to discounts, exclusive offers and even a complimentary glass of champagne when dining during their birthday month.

David Moss, owner of the Wensleydale Heifer said: “It was a complete surprise to us, albeit a very pleasant one, when we were featured in these prestigious listings in The Times. It’s always satisfying to receive independent verification of our own high standards.

“We pride ourselves on giving customers to both the restaurant and the hotel exactly what they want and we have a very loyal clientele. The new Diners’ Club will reward existing customers with special offers and discounts and hopefully attract more people to visit and enjoy the Wensleydale Heifer and the Yorkshire Dales.”
