Richmond sex assault - police renew appeals

[Wednesday 22 February 2006]

Police investigating a sexual assault on a schoolgirl in Richmond in November are renewing their appeal for witnesses.

The attack happened near Finkle Street in the town centre as the girl walked towards Newbiggin at 7.30pm on Monday 28th November.

The girl was followed by the man and then grabbed from behind. The attack lasted for a short time and the man ran off back towards the Market Place.

The attacker is described as being in his late 20s or early 30s with a dark complexion, about 5'4" tall, medium build with a chubby face and moustache.

He was wearing a black half-length padded jacket with light-coloured trousers or jeans, and a black woolly hat with the word PARIS embroidered on the front.

"We are determined to resolve this frightening incident," said Sergeant Neil Northend, the investigating officer.

He added: "The girl was very shaken following the ordeal and we want to do everything we can to catch the man responsible.

"Although it was evening time, there were still a lot of people and cars in the area. We ask anyone who might have witnessed the attack or think they recognise the man in the e-fit to contact me as soon as possible."

If you can help the investigation, contact North Yorkshire Police on 0845 60 60 24 7.
