Pendle Mayor walks canal
THE Mayor of Pendle, Coun Allan Buck, walked the entire 12.5mile length of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal that runs through Pendle recently.
Setting off from Barden Mill on the Burnley boundary, the group wound its way along the Canal, passing through the "Mile" Tunnel in Foulridge before finishing the walk just past Greenberfield Locks.
The Mayor decided to walk the canal to promote Pendle's fourth annual Canal Festival which is taking place on the Saturday 22nd of September at Junction 12 off the M65, starting at noon.
The Mayor said: "It was great to experience the beautiful canal-side of Pendle and to see some of the improvements that have been made.
"Everyone who joined me on the walk had a wonderful time and I would like to pass my thanks on to Mrs and Mr Jackson from Leeds who were kind enough to give me a lift through Foulridge Tunnel, because I didn't fancy swimming it"
Gail King, the owner of Lower Park Marina, who helped save the day for the Mayor, added: "We had already hired out our Day Boat, but when the customers who had hired it heard about the Mayor's trip they wanted to help, so they gave him a lift.
"It's great that he's done this journey because it places a spotlight on the canal, one of Pendle's hidden gems.
"We are developing a new marina at Salterforth and we hope that we can play our part in bringing more visitors to the area."
