Craven Museum & Gallery launches amateur photography competition to celebrate Craven.
We all know that we live in one of the most beautiful areas in the country and residents are being offered the chance to prove it to the rest of the nation.
Craven District Council’s Craven Museum & Gallery is running a Craven-themed competition for amateur photographers.
Simply send in your digital images that you feel represent life in Craven. This could be a dramatic scenic shot of Gaping Gill, a village scene of Grassington or a busy market day at Skipton or Settle. The winners will have their photograph of Craven produced as a postcard to be sold at Craven Museum & Gallery gift shop.
The competition is open to amateur photographers young and old. For the purpose of this competition, if you have ever sold an image that you have taken you are classed as a professional. There are two age categories for the competition, under 18s and over 18s.
Councillor Ken Hart, Lead Member for Culture at Craven District Council, said: “Craven is a beautiful place to live and work. This is a perfect opportunity for residents to share their images of places that are special to them. The winning images on postcards will be a lasting record of Craven.”
The entries will be judged by award winning photographer Steve Garnett of the Craven Herald and Craven District Council’s Arts and Exhibition Officer, Catherine Johnson. The top ten entries will be made into postcards, at least two of which will be from the under 18’s category.
The top 50 photographs will also be showcased in a small temporary exhibition at Craven Museum & Gallery.
