HUNDREDS of children from around Thirsk are expected to be splashing for cash over the next several months.
Sponsored by Huggies little swimmers, the event encourages babies, toddlers and young children to raise money by simply splashing a width or length of their local swimming pool - as well as having fun to help Tommy's fund its research into premature birth, still birth and miscarriage.
It is hoped that nationally around £150,000 will be raised.
"This event is great fun for both the youngsters and parents taking part - and the money raised will support Tommy's many research projects aimed at the ending the heartache so many parents suffer when their precious baby dies during pregnancy," said Jane Brewin, chief executive of Tommy's.
Each splasher will receive free Huggies little swim pants to join in the fun in the water, along with a certificate to display their great achievement. They also have a chance to win fun inflatable pool toys.
The Thirsk Splashathon takes place during any public swimming session as well as during one of the 'Teddy Tot' lessons throughout May and June.
