A Yorkshire Dales Youth Hostel has won a temporary reprieve from closure, but three others are to face the axe by October.
Officials at the Youth Hostel Association say the Stainforth Facility will stay open until October 2007, but the hostels at Keld, Earby, and Kirkby Stephen will all close at the end of the current season.
The announcement follows last month's decision by the YHA to close 32 sites in England and Wales as part of a restructuring exercise that will see the organisation concentrating on its more popular sites.
It is not the first time that Stainforth has been threatened with closure and subsequently remained open - however, on this occasion it does appear certain that the closure will eventually go ahead following a year long review of facilities by the YHA.
The organisation is now planning to use the revenue from the sale of redundant property to fund what it calls a sustained programme of investment in its remaining facilities over the next ten years.
