NORTH Yorkshire County Council's library at Crosshills is about to be extended to more than twice its size with hugely improved book lending facilities. The new library will also provide better access to face-to-face public services and facilities for local residents to hire for meetings and other community events.
The library will move into temporary accommodation in St Peter's Church Hall, Main Street, Crosshills from 10am on Monday (24th August). It will close on its current site for the improvement work to take place at 1pm on Saturday 15th August.
The opening hours from 24th August will be: Mondays 10am -1pm and 2-7pm. Thursdays 2-5pm, and Fridays 2-7pm.
The temporary library will provide a selection of children's and adult stock, including fiction and nonfiction books, large print books, audio books, and story tapes for children. Any titles not readily available on the shelves can quickly be supplied via the library request system. In addition to book stock there will be internet and computer facilities available for the public and continued access to 'face to face' customer services.
The new extended Library will be open in six months. County Councillor Chris Metcalfe, North Yorkshire's executive member for library and community services said: "We are delighted to be putting this investment into Crosshills. The new library will be more than twice the size of the current building and will be able to offer a greater range of services."
