Hairdresser raises funds for charity

A DALES hairdresser recently abandoned his scissors and comb and donned a pair of new trainers to take part in the Leeds Half Marathon for charity.

John Goddard, who runs SAKS salon in Skipton, who had never run in an event previously, was persuaded to run the race in aid of Ribble Valley & White Rose Ladies by one of his customers.

Karen Weaving of the town's Rendezvous Hotel hosts many of the RV&WRL events at the hotel and is one of the original founders of the charity which has raised thousands for research into children's cancer.

"Running the race was an amazing experience", says John. "I only started training for it a week before, so it was hard work, but Karen is a persuasive lady and it was all done for a great cause. I just hope she doesn't ask me to do the London marathon next!" he added.
