JUST days after a major report was published into the urgent need for affordable housing in rural areas work has begun to build affordable homes for older and less mobile residents in Richmond.

Cllr Curran gets stuck in at the Nuns Close site
Richmondshire District Council is working in partnership with Tees Valley Housing Group to build 5 flats in the town centre at Nuns Close.
"I am so pleased that this project is underway," says Councillor Linda Curran, Richmondshire's Member for Disability Issues.
"Providing homes which people can actually afford to live in, be it buying or renting, is one of our top priorities, and we are committed to making 120 affordable homes available by 2009."
The site, close to the market place, shops and amenities is one of the very few areas in Richmond, which gives continuous level ground access into town.
"I am glad we are able to provide homes here for people who may otherwise find it very difficult to get out and about independently," added Councillor Curran.
The flats are due to be completed by April 2007.
