A MAJOR event in the Yorkshire Dales calendar gets underway at the end of this month as Leyburn hosts the annual Dales Festival of Food and Drink.
Held in the bustling market town on the 28th, 29th April and 1st May the Festival is the North's Premier event celebrating the local Food, Drink and Farming of the Region - and this year health and hygiene will also feature prominently.

hands to the test
Staff from Richmondshire District Council's Environment Unit will be raising awareness of the importance of hygiene and pest control.
Food Safety Officers will be available throughout the three day event give local business owners, visitors and Richmondshire residents an insight into what the Council's Food Team does, and how the service can help.
The Environment Unit stand will feature a 'Hand Cleanliness Test' where visitors will be able to wash their hands with a special cream then use an ultra- violet light test to see how clean or dirty their hands actually are. Other items include a cabinet containing good and bad food, insect exhibits; including live cockroaches, pest control information and microscopes for viewing smaller exhibits.
"We want the stand to be fun and interactive," said Head of Commercial Health, John Jamieson. "We are trying to be as proactive as possible and hope people will want to get involved."
The Council's Tourism Team will also be at the festival, promoting visitor attractions in the area and raising awareness of the services on offer at Leyburn's Tourist Information Centre.
Three day advance festival passes are available now from Leyburn Tourist Information Centre; call 01969 623069 for more details or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org
