The World of James Herriot has three new volunteers.
The trio from Thirsk School and Sixth Form College are working with centre staff on marketing – including Facebook and Youtube posts. They will also be conducting research with schools.
Alistair Adair, Oliver Tindall and Tom Hendry offered their services after spending time at the museum before Christmas as part of ‘Takeover Day’ - a national event led by the Children’s Commissioner for England which aimed to give children and young people the chance to shadow jobs, get involved in decision making and offer their opinions on key issues.
They will spend two hours a fortnight at the Thirsk museum and use the experience to boost their business studies college course work.
“We want to help the museum and improve our skills,” said Alistair Adair.
“This work with the centre will give us a valuable insight into the world of tourism and business. We are all great fans of e communications – Facebook, Youtube and the like – so hope to be able to improve the centre’s use of this and encourage more visitors through the doors. It will also give us a real life look at the business world, not just being taught how to pass an exam!”
