Rights of way campaigning and research has just been made easier, with the addition of an all-new search function to 'Blue Book Extra’ (BBE); the on-line companion to “Rights of Way: A Guide to Law and Practice”.
Known simply as ‘the Blue Book’, the Guide is the definitive manual for rights-of-way law in England and Wales. The BBE online companion links to the online publications and judgements available in the Blue Book, and provides access to new judgements, documents and downloadable information to compliment the Book – ensuring activists are always kept up to date.
Both are essential tools for Rights of Way activists, and a fascinating read for those interested in the historical and contemporary usage of the unique public paths network in England and Wales.
When the latest version of the book was published George Laurence QC commented: “The Blue Book’s famed reputation for even-handedness in this complex and controversial field makes it the first port of call for anyone concerned with a dispute concerning public rights of way. Accurate cross-referencing between the statutory and other materials in Part II and the legal analysis in Part I greatly enhances the utility of the whole. I commend it without reservation.”
Janet Davis, Senior Policy Officer at the Ramblers, has welcomed the improved BBE website: "We reach for the blue book on a daily basis to help us resolve path problems but the law changes all too frequently. The improved function of the BBE website will help everyone with an interest in this complex subject to keep abreast of the changes.
The fourth edition of the Blue Book, published in May 2007, has been completely revised and updated by two of the country’s leading experts on rights-of-way law. It is published by the two leading organisations concerned with the protection of rights of way, the Ramblers and the Open Spaces Society.
The Blue Book is available to Buy online for £29.95 plus postage from distributors – Cordee. The online BBE guide is available at www.ramblers.co.uk/rightsofwaybook
