A group of Craven poets are having a celebration of poetry at The Victoria Hall in Settle on Thursday 1st October.
The organisers promise something for everyone. “A surprisingly large number of people read and write poetry. We wanted to give them the chance to hear poetry read to give it an extra dimension”, said Jean Harrison, one of the poet organisers.
“We’re going to read our own work, but also work from the Bloodaxe Books anthologies of modern poetry, Being Alive and Staying Alive. We hope to involve local students in the readings by inviting them to read their favourite poems from the anthologies”.
The guest poet will be Jean Stevens and members of her group will read too. The event is a few days ahead of National Poetry Day on October 8th which is designed to encourage the enjoyment of poetry in the UK.
The event is on Thursday 1st October at 7.30pm with tickets at £4.50 or £3 for concessions to include an interval drink. More information from 01729 823305.
