Room for improvement - could you design a better sign to the
area's creative industries?
VISITORS to a group of craft based businesses in the Yorkshire Dales will soon be pointed in the right direction for quality workmanship and creative expertise, thanks to an initiative by Richmondshire District Council.
A competition to design the signage to stand at the entrance to Reeth's Silver Street business units in Swaledale is being launched today (18 May). It's hoped the creation will set the mood for visitors looking for that special something from the talented craftspeople based there.
"The existing signage doesn't really do justice to the group of incredibly talented artisans who are working at Silver Street", explains the District Council's Culture and Community Wellbeing Officer, Lynda Powell.
"We really want the whole creative atmosphere of the place to be obvious, and hope that will be reflected in the designs we receive during the competition."
Tenants at the Council owned site currently include furniture and clockmakers, glass artists, fine art and sculpture. The closing date for entries is 29 June, with the new sign due to be in place by mid September.
Full details of the signage commission competition, open only to artists based in the District, are available at richmondshire.gov.uk or from Lynda Powell on 01748 829100.
