A post box similar to the one stolen
POLICE in Craven are investigating an unusual theft - a Royal Mail post box that mysteriously disappeared last weekend.
The red, genuine Victorian post box, which was still in operational use, was removed from its mountings within a stone wall at Linton Falls, an isolated beauty spot near Grassington in the Yorkshire Dales.
The theft took place at sometime between 5pm on Saturday 11 August and 8am on Monday 13 August.
It has the logo "VR" on the front and the identification number 141.
Sgt Andy Gill said: "This is a rare and unusual theft and we can only assume someone has taken it as a collectors item. It may have contained a small amount of mail awaiting collection but that is unlikely to have been the motive.
"The mail box is obviously identifiable and anyone with information as to its whereabouts is asked to contact Skipton police on 0845 60 60 24 7."
