PEOPLE living in the A65 corridor between Skipton and Settle are being offered their last chance the save by-passes around key villages, plans which have been under discussion for more than 30 years.
Gargrave, Hellifield and Long Preston, which are choked with traffic, noise and fumes, almost got their long awaited relief roads in 1997 after decades of waiting. Work had been approved by John Major's Conservative Government by they were postponed immediately Labour came to power.
Now, the Highways Agency wants to rescind planning permissions granted some 20 years ago which would mean that, if residents were ever to get the by-passes, the process would have to start all over again.
However, a public enquiry to rescind the revocation order will start at Gargrave on February 21. Almost 100 local people have already registered as witnesses to save the plans and they are backed by North Yorkshire, Craven and parish councils.
