CCTV images of
potential witnesses
CAN you help? That is the question from police officers investigating the tragic death of a Knaresborough pensioner earlier this year.
Officers have released the attached CCTV images in an attempt to gain vital information which may lead them to the driver who was involved in the fatal hit and run incident in which 75-yr-old Bill Hendry died.
At around 9.35am on Monday 26 February, Mr Hendry was struck by a small vehicle in Stockwell Lane, Knaresborough. Mr Hendry suffered serious injuries and died in hospital later that day.
The driver of the vehicle has yet to come forward despite intense media appeals from police and heartbroken members of Mr Hendry's family.
Officers now hope that one of the customers pictured in these newly released images could provide the missing information which could bring this tragic incident to a conclusion.
The images were taken at around 9.30am on that day, in the Post Office on Stockwell Lane in Knaresborough, where Mr Hendry had just bought his usual morning newspaper. He was wearing a green Barbour jacket and a cloth cap and was accompanied by his dog, Abby.
Detective Inspector Dave Horne said: "If anyone reading this appeal recognises themselves in the images, please get in touch as you may have information which could provide the vital clue we need to trace the driver of the car. It doesn't matter how small or insignificant you may think the information is, you might provide the breakthrough we are looking for. Please get in touch."
Please call DI Horne on 0845 60 60 247. Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555-111.
A reward of £1,000 is being offered by Crimestoppers for information leading to the arrest of the driver involved.
