A Decision on whether to site two wind turbines on land on Hambleton’s boundary with Teesside has been put on hold.
Councillors had been due to discuss plans by Broadview Energy Developments to site two turbines at Seamer at their meeting next week (July 23). Permission for a further three turbines on the site was granted by Stockton councillors last week – the Hilton Road land lies in both council areas.
But the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government has issued a ‘holding direction’ preventing the application from proceeding. It came after Stockton on Tees MP Dari Taylor requested that the decision by her local council be ‘called in’ and be determined by central government.
“This holding direction means we cannot proceed with our decision making process until the Secretary of State decides whether it is a decision for him – or for us - to make,” said Hambleton’s Head of Service – Development, Maurice Cann. “We expect a decision within three weeks. If it is left for our councillors to decide on the application it will go before committee in August.”
