ONE Yorkshire Dales district is taking a novel approach to encouraging youngsters to drop their rubbish in a bin, rather than on the ground.
As pictured, Olivia Proud is simply 'quackers' about dumping her apple core in one of Hambleton's new talking litter bins!
Trouble is which one does the four year old use - the penguin, robin or duck.
Especially as each one 'talks' to her when she drops her litter in their mouths...saying yum yum, feed me more.
The District Council is hoping to pilot the bins in primary schools across the district from September and will be launching a competition to find a new litter education programme in which one of the bins will be given away as a prize.
The bins, which cost £300 each, are also available to buy and council officers hope they will soon be in use at children's playgrounds and on village greens.
More details on how to buy one of the talking bins is available from the council's operational services department on 01609 776743.
