WILDFLOWERS will soon be blooming at Boyle & Petyt Primary School near Beamsley – thanks to the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority (YDNPA).
Children at the school, National Park Authority Rangers and Dales Volunteers have been busy planting a variety of flowers provided by the Authority to bring an extra splash of colour to their playing field.
The Authority’s Lower Wharfedale Area Ranger Phil Richards, Access Ranger Richard Mainman and some Dales Volunteers turned out to help the pupils.
“It’s important to get the children interested in wildlife from an early age so that they develop a love and understanding of it – and we are always keen to help,” Phil said.
Headteacher Imogen Addy said: ”We had a playing field with nothing in it apart from a football pitch so it was a completely blank canvas when we started.
“The National Park Authority has worked with us, parents and friends of the school and we have dug out paths round the outside of the field and we are now starting to develop habitat areas so the field can be used as an outdoor learning environment.
“The Authority has been brilliant in supporting us in what we want to do and giving us help and advice.”
Future projects for the school include developing a butterfly garden and stone and wood piles to attract more wildlife.
