YOUNGSTERS in one Yorkshire Dales town are to get the chance to show off their creative talents when a new drama workshop opens later this month.

Designed for eight to 16 year olds the weekly 'GoAct!' classes will lead to regular public performances. And it is open to seasoned actors and actresses as well as young people with no previous experience on the stage.

The classes will encourage them to take part in different types of drama as well as giving them the chance to get involved with set design, scenery building, choreography, sound and lighting.

Members of the Northallerton Amateur Variety Company, Northallerton Amateur Operatics Society and the Allerton Players - all local groups who regularly perform at the Forum - will be helping out at the Saturday morning sessions.

"We are aiming to give people a chance to explore talents and styles that they might not have met before," said Drama Practitioner, Simon Gibson.

"The fusion of different styles culminating in a final performance will give the group a unique taste of a range of drama genres."

'GoAct!' will begin at the Hambleton Forum in Northallerton on April 28.

The initial set of classes will lead to a public performance on June 30 at 1pm.

Sessions take place from 10am until 12noon and cost £8. They are bookable in advance either weekly or as a 10-week course through Hambleton Leisure Centre on 01609 777070.
