Council supports Energy Saving Week

[Thursday 15 October 2009]

The energy Saving Trust’s Energy Saving Week is taking place from 19-25 October and Craven District Council is asking residents for their support.

Councillor Paul Whitaker, Lead member for the Environment, said: “This year’s theme for Energy Saving Week is waste and the Council is joining the Energy Saving Trust in encouraging people across the district to stop WASTING money and energy! There are a series of events planned over the next week where residents can find out more, whether that be information about the new waste collection arrangements or how to get advice on saving energy and money around your home.”

There will be an event every day in Craven which will have a mini-theme:

Monday – Waste
Pop along to the Waste Roadshow at Craven Pool & Fitness Centre (4 -6pm) to find out about recycling more in Craven and changes to domestic waste collection arrangements.

Tuesday –Waste
Residents are invited to the AWC Roadshow which will be visiting the Greatwood and Horseclose Estates Committee, at Roughaw Close (4.30 – 6.30pm) to talk about recycling and changes to domestic waste collection.

Wednesday – Water
Craven District Council staff, partners and organisations will be contacted about water minimisation and how to receive flushsavers which reduce the amount of water flushed down the toilet.

Thursday – Switching off and Energy
Craven District Council, the Chamber of Trade, Craven LSP, schools and businesses are invited to take part in a ‘switch off’ campaign where they pledge to save energy by ensuring that lights, PC monitors and electrical equipment that doesn’t need to be left on is switched off. Residents can also visit the Energy and Waste stand at the Council’s Airedale and South Craven Area Forum, the Glusburn Institute (3-8pm).

Friday – Transport
Residents can learn how to drive more energy efficiently and safely on a car simulator being held in Craven Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre (11am – 4pm). The driver with the safest and most fuel efficient time will win a compost bin. Residents can also speak to Energy Saving Trust advisors about how to save energy and money at work and at home.
