YOUNGSTERS in one Yorkshire Dales town are getting their boats ready for the village's annual 'Parade of Sail'.
The pageant - organised by the Hambleton District Council - will see scores of homemade craft sail down the River Leven at Great Ayton next week.
The event will mark the 279th anniversary of Captain James Cook's birthday.
The event begins at Low Green, Great Ayton next Wednesday (October 24) at 9.30am with judging of the best boat. Races begin at 10am. All entries must be booked in advance with tourism officer, Louise Granger on 01609 767110.
"This event has become a permanent fixture in the Captain Cook diary," said Tourism Manager, David Shields.
"We hope as many people as possible will come along to join in the fun - whether sailing a boat or simply cheering on the entrants. It is our eighth 'Parade of Sail' and we hope for more entries than ever."
