Pavlo kicks off UK tour in Yorkshire Dales

A THIRSK based arts venue will be Jazzing it up next month as renowned Canadian guitarist Pavlo kicks off his UK tour right here in the Yorkshire Dales.

The Montreal musician is the first in the 2007 programme from Rural Arts, based at the Old Courthouse in Thirsk.

Hailed as "intense, haunting and fiercely passionate", Pavlo has received critical acclaim around the world as a composer, guitarist, singer, and recording artist.

His music combines flamenco, Latin, classical and Mediterranean guitar, blended and infused with the sensuous sound of the Greek Bouzouki.

Jane Redfern from Rural Arts says: "This will be the first live music of the New Year in The Old Courthouse and we hope people will brave the dark nights to enjoy an evening of sizzling guitar music.

"His blend of Latin is described as 'unashamedly romantic' and this could be a lovely Valentines treat. It's also a great chance to see Pavlo performing in such an intimate venue, he drove an audience of over 25,000 wild at the Montreal Jazz Festival so it will be a delight to see him at the Old Courthouse"

Pavlo plays at The Old Courthouse on 8 February at 7.30pm and tickets are £10 from Rural Arts on 01845 526536 or the Thirsk Tourist Information Office.
